Setting up the PrestaShop Google Login for PrestaShop sites

A PrestaShop social login module can be used to integrate a Google login to your eCommerce site. Social login module constitutes of several other social login options such as Facebook social login, Twitter social login, Drop box social login, etc. When webmasters implemented a social login for the first time, it was believed that most of the customers have an account on at least one of the social sites. So, the webmasters can effectively utilize the customers’ information in these sites to create a user account on their websites, and that too without asking the customers to fill a lengthy registration form.

Why has Google Login been a success?

Google is one of the most used, search engine, email services, and a social network. In parallel to other social sites like Facebook and Twitter, most of the customers have a Google account. So, why not utilize this platform for optimizing the user experience on the websites.

Considering the PrestaShop websites, they are one of the most popular eCommerce platforms today. How to import products in bulk in Magento

Introduction

Magento offers useful and powerful facility to import/export products in bulk via CSV using DATAFLOW profiles. You can import/export your current magento data very easily.

Method 1: Manually

Step 1: Importing Product Data

Data format is very important in importing the data. First you need to learn the data format required by Magento for import. The simplest way is to create a sample product and export all products. Following steps have to be followed-

  • System -> Import/Export -> DataFlow-Profiles.
  • Click “Edit” in the row of “Export All Products”.

  • Go to “Run Profile” tab, click “Run Profile In Pop-up.

The exported CSV File will be downloaded/placed in-

Open the downloaded file with spreadsheet application.

You can update data if you want to and save it with .csv extension.

Now you can import the product data by running Import All Products DataFlow Profile.

Upload your edited CSV file and run the profile.

Following steps have to be followed-

  • System -> Import/Export -> DataFlow-Profiles.
  • Click “Edit” in the row of “Import All Products”.

  • “Upload” tab -> Choose file(1 or more) -> “Save and continue edit”

Note: Your file should be in .csv format.

  • “Run Profile” tab -> Select file from the drop-down menu -> “Run profile in popup”

Step 2: Importing Product Images

  1. After successfully importing database into your Magento, now you can import product images with following steps-
  2. FTP all the product images to “/media/import” folder of your Magento setup folder. We highly recommend you to store the images in the high quality as Magento will resize the images to required dimensions while importing.
  3. Create a new spreadsheet having sku and image column.
  4. Copy the sku column from your product data file(.csv).
  5. Copy the image file names from your inventory and copy them to the image column in spreadsheet.
  6. Images should have .jpeg extension with “/” leading the name.
  7. Create new DataFlow profile called Import Products Images with the following settings-
  • Entity Type: Products
  • Direction: Import
  • Data Transfer: Interactive
  • Type: CSV/Tab Separated
  • Field Markup: sku -> sku, image -> image.
  1. Upload the file and Run.

Method 2: Using Extension

You can use extension for import/export bulk products at a time, which you can download at Magento Connect.

Step 3: Removing Duplicated Images

Whenever you run a product image import, Magento copies the image from /media/import to a subdirectory of the /media/catalog/product folder, thus after many imports, it creates duplicate files in the media folder.

Yo can use delete unused duplicate images with this extension.

A large number of eCommerce start-ups, small and medium scale eCommerce businesses are already rocking their ways on PrestaShop platform. So, let’s take this opportunity to enlighten some tips that can be used to acquire relevant email list on a PrestaShop store.

Installing a PrestaShop MailChimp Integrator– The default installation of PrestaShop does not manage the email capturing functionalities. You can see the email ids and other details of the customers only if they successfully place an order on your store or if they are already registered on your PrestaShop site. So, the only way left to introduce an email capturing functionality is to install a PrestaShop module that uses email capturing agents to build a list of emails on your store.

In the same path, MailChimp is a well-known email marketing and email capturing agent that is used by the merchants across the online world. So, It would be a great idea to integrate a PrestaShop MailChimp integrator addon to perform this useful functionality.

Use the forms on your site to capture email data-The email data we collect from different sources and platforms might not always be useful. In most of the cases, they end up in the spam folder of the recipient. It is a sure case that they will end up in spam because the email data might not always be relevant to what you offer.

Contrasting to this, an email data collected right from the visitors on your site are more relevant and have higher chances of conversion. By blurring we mean it syncs the customer’s E-mail Id automatically as soon as the user comes out of Email address field. Now that email fields are used in many types of forms on your site (listed above), you can use these forms wisely to build your own email data that consist of more relevant users. Capturing an email data from your own website makes sure that it is a relevant user who might be interested in a business with you.

Finally,

There are various email capturing agents like MailChimp and Mailigen that can be used for your purpose. You will need to first have a subscription of these agents to use them on your site. How to add a custom Magento checkout extension in place of default checkout?

Checking out has been a pain to the customers for a very long time. I can recall the days when multi-page checkouts were the only option available to both the website owners and the customers on the website. Magento, one of the most popular eCommerce platform; it has a default Magento checkout extension that comes pre-configured with the first installation. However, still, this generic Magento checkout is not enough to reduce that pain for the website owners.

I would not go in detail because, as a website owner you must have the knowledge of how the generic checkout is not a perfect tool to fight the evils like shopping cart abandonment and frequent checkout-bounce-backs. So, here I am going to explain how can you upgrade your existing Magento checkout extension into a fully efficient Magento one page checkout.

Why upgrade your Magento checkout extension?

In simple words, your generic Magento checkout extension looks something like this:

It’s a multi-step Magento checkout that continues with the next step only when you complete the process serially. So, it consists of a six-step checkout without an option of social login. This reason is enough to counter the usability of the first steps itself. Moreover, when all your rival sites already provide a better checkout experience, the bounce backs from your checkout page would be a frequently observed phenomenon.

Now look at the example of a custom Magento one page checkout extension in the screenshot below from the Knowband’s Magento one page checkout extension:

A custom Magento one page checkout looks something like the above. A one-page checkout process with the option to login via social account, update the cart and products, select the shipping option and make the payment on the same page. Now, the big question, which one would your customers like better? Which one do you find more user-friendly? I think the answer is simple. So, if you are still using the generic Magento checkout extension and wish to touch the skies with your online business, sticking to the same would not be an advice that I will give here.

So, let’s upgrade your current Magento checkout extension into a usable Magento one page checkout.

How to upgrade your Magento checkout extension?

Like every other eCommerce platform, Magento is a master of great affinity to integrate custom Magento extensions. So, it provides the third party Magento developers from the community a great option to develop custom Magento extensions and install them. Magento one page checkout extension is one such Magento extension which was first introduced to fight with the shopping cart abandonments on a Magento based eCommerce site. Later, the one-page checkout model became so popular that a large number of Magento developers came up with their own versions of the same. Each of them presents the Magento checkout in their own way, but the goal is same; providing a single page checkout experience.

So, Solution is simple, just look out for a proper Magento one page checkout extension and install it on your Magento platform. It seems to be a simple task, but it is not really so. As I have mentioned earlier, a large number of Magento developers have come up with their versions of the same; trust me, all of them are really not useful. So, you have to be very picky when it comes to spending some money in buying a correct Magento one page checkout extension. You have to understand the best practices of a true one-page checkout model and choose accordingly.

PrestaShop Age Verification addon- Make your PrestaShop website Age Restricted

There are plenty of websites that sell products that are meant for adults or for a certain age group only. Such websites should ideally be accessible by adults and not by minors. Even the law in various countries does not permit the underage to access explicit content on the websites. It is, therefore, the duty of the website owners to make sure that their website follows the Age verification process.

Why is Age verification necessary?

Just because the new generation of kids is more tech-savvy at the younger ages, does not always mean that their brains are developing at the same rate as their digital awareness. Underage children can put themselves in harm and might become a victim of online harassment, solicitation and cyberbullying before they are ready to respond correctly.

According to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) passed in 1998, every child and their personal information, under the age of 13 are protected by the law. Websites are not allowed to leverage their information or share them with anyone, not even the advertisers.

Today, it is the responsibility of the website owners to identify such population on their websites and take appropriate actions, and Prestashop Age Verification addon helps in doing so.

Final word

It is a social and legal responsibility of the website owners to make their website age-restricted if it contains the elements that should not be accessed by the underage population. It is not just about the adult explicit contents, but also about caring for the privacy and protection of children from cyber crimes and complying with the law. 7 Useful Tips for a User-Friendly Checkout

You would have often visited malls for shopping purpose. What did you look for after picking up your items? I am sure your eyes would have been searching for a short checkout line so that you could make a quick checkout.

Let me tell you my case, I went to a store a few days back, picked up some stuff and when it was time to go to the billing counter, I noticed the line was too long. I waited for a few minutes initially but couldn’t keep the patience for long. I left my items there and took an exit from the store.

In e-commerce, this is what we call as Cart Abandonment and a lengthy checkout process is one of the primary reasons for it. This is exactly what happened in my case too. When I realized the checkout would take a lot of time, I dropped the purchase idea.

This is why a simplified and a user-friendly checkout holds very high importance in the eCommerce space. When users find a checkout process lengthy or time-consuming, they abandon their cart and look for better alternatives.

Getting shoppers to your eCommerce store is not difficult, engaging them till the final payment process without disturbing the user experience, is. The checkout page is the most important part of this whole engagement game.

Through this article, I will enlighten you on how to optimize the checkout process and create a user-friendly checkout.

1. Make Account Registration Optional or at least Offer Social Login

Avoiding compulsory account creation is the primary step towards a user-friendly checkout. Do not compel users to signup when they look almost set to make the payment. Making registration process compulsory at the checkout page mostly results in cart abandonment, which causes high conversion loss.

Let the mandatory sign up process not be a hurdle in a successful conversion. Offer Guest checkout or introduce a Social Login option on the checkout page. This would help users in a quick checkout without hampering the checkout experience.

2. Allow Customers to Easily Update the cart

In many of the eCommerce websites, there is no option to update the product quantity right from the checkout page. Hence, if a customer wants to increase or decrease the product quantity, it leaves them with no choice except discarding their current checkout process, going back to the product page, updating the quantity and filling out the entire details again. This spoils the user experience.

So, make sure that you include the option to update the product quantity on the checkout page. Also, ensure that the back button takes the user to the previous page rather than discarding all their information.

3. Add a One Page Checkout

A one-page checkout also called as a single page checkout is also one of the important elements of a user-friendly checkout. Instead of asking users to navigate through multiple steps to fill the checkout form, make it a single step checkout process. It improves user experience, reduces the chances of cart abandonment and eventually leads to increased conversions.

Our One Page Checkout module incorporates all the checkout fields on a single page and helps merchants to allow a quick checkout facility to their customers. The module offers Guest Checkout, Social Login, Multiple Layout Designs, etc. Most importantly, it supports nearly all the major payment methods and shipping services.

4. Display the errors up-front

Mistakes happen very often while filling out the checkout fields and customers are not aware of it until they hit the submit button. They have to submit again and again until the entered inputs are found to be correct. This can be extremely frustrating and become a major barrier in a user-friendly checkout.

Use Inline Validation to counter this hurdle. It identified the inputs in real-time and displays whether the provided details are correct or not when the user switches from one field to another.

5. Display Checkout Progress

Use a progress bar to indicate at which step the customer is present and how many more steps does he or she need to go through before finally placing their order. It is always a good idea to keep visitors updated about their checkout progress.

Many a time, shoppers leave the purchase incomplete because they get tired of filling out the information when they are not aware of the checkout progress. So, give them a clear idea up-front of the number of steps that are needed to make through the checkout.

6. Provide Real-time Customer Support

Customers can have a lot of queries while they are on the checkout page, especially the new visitors. You never know what’s going through a customer’s mind during the purchase.

To assist them with their queries or help them with any trouble they are facing, provide them with real-time support. Adding a live chat option or customer support number would do a great job.

7. Thank Your Customers for Shopping with Your Brand

Leave a “Thank You” note for your customers as soon as they place their order along with the “Order Successful” message, obviously. This is a good sign to appreciate or thank your customers for showing trust in your brand. It improves customer loyalty.

Knowband provides “Better Thank You Page” module that converts a normal order success page into an effective marketing strategy. With the help of this module, the admin can encourage repeat purchases and improve customer retention by offering discounts to their customers for future purchase. It also encourages cross-selling.
