The new privacy law CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act) will come into force on 1st January 2020. This law applies to all the companies which collect or process the data of the Califonia residents. The CCPA provides some specific rights to the customers to protect their privacy. CCPA provides the following rights to the customers:
California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) - Opencart Extensions
The CCPA extension for OpenCart by Knowband helps the OpenCart store admin to meet the CCPA requirements. The CCPA extension for the OpenCart platform covers all the rights of the consumers and provides them an interface to access their privacy rights. To know more about the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) please visits the official website of the California State Legislature.
Cookie usages and setting:
The admin can display a cookie notice to the customers and redirect the customers to the Cookie Details page where all the details regarding the cookies used on the website are listed.
Right to opt-out:
The consumers have the right to opt-out of the sale of personal data. It is required to display a "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" link on the website so that customers can view the accepted consents. The admin can also add the checkboxes with the text "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" with a link to the privacy page on registration and contact us forms.
Right to delete:
CCPA allows the California customers to request for the deletion of the personal information collected by a business in the last 12 months. The CCPA OpenCart extension provides an interface to the customers so that they can request for the data deletion. As soon as customer requests for the data deletion then a confirmation email for the verification of the email address will be sent to the customer and if the customer confirms the data deletion request then the customer data will be deleted from the store.
The admin has the option to view the delete requests from the extension backend. The OpenCart CCPA extension offers customizable email templates that can be used to automate the process. The store admin can enable or disable the deletion of the previous orders for future references. In case the customer data has been stored on third-party services then the admin needs to delete that data manually.
Right to access & data portability:
The CCPA allows California customers to access their personal information and download the same. The OpenCart CCPA extension allows the customers to view or download personal data from the store. Customers can request the personal data captured by the business or download the data in CSV format.
The admin has the option to add the description for the personal data in which the admin can explain the purpose of data collection, use of the personal information and other related details. The admin can add the third party services with the explanation of what data has been shared or sold to the third-parties.
Customer consent update:
The customers can view the consents provided at the time of registration and update the same from the "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" page if required.
The admin will be able to see the updates in the module backend.
If the user accepts the consents then it will be recorded in the backend of the module and admin can view the records for future references.
The CCPA OpenCart extension offers the readymade email templates which can be customized as per the business need. These templates are really helpful to automate the data access and data deletion requests and improve the customer experience in your store.
If there is a feature you want on your Opencart site, chances are that an Opencart plugin will allow you to do it, if you don't find any such plugin you can always contact us for your custom plugin development requirements.
