How to Start Local Delivery Services on Your Online Store for Holiday Season

Many businesses are adapting to stay at home and running online. In-house delivery is the new trend after the COVID outbreak.

While making a purchase, every user has to decide between shopping online or buying it from a physical store.

And the most important factors that influence your purchase decision are the time you have got to complete the purchase and the value of the money you are going to spend.

Though brick and mortar stores still make more sales than online stores, online stores are steadily on the rise. This is primarily due to improved pace and comfort.

Customers now demand faster delivery. Hence, local delivery businesses are flourishing.

You might be wondering how to set up a local delivery service and whether or not local delivery is right for your company. This article will guide you to start a hot shot online local delivery service on your online store.

What do you mean by local delivery services?

How to take orders for local delivery:

  1. Through online website- eStore
  2. Over phone calls (If your customers are known and limited)
  3. Through chat apps

Set up a local eCommerce delivery website

Since you’re an established company, we’re not going to waste time telling you how to set up a website, as you probably already have one. Or if you are new to it then you can set up an online website on any of the eCommerce platforms. Our website development services are discussed in our previous article.

But it’s important to note that you need a webshop on your site, which means a place where customers can add your goods to a shopping cart, place their shipping address, and process payment.

Local delivery services can boost online sales

With local delivery, companies can give their local customers thoughtful shopping experiences and help drive sales and revenue. Here are some of the ways through which the Delivery Boy App can help businesses communicate with local customers and build a place for themselves within their communities.

At the local level, not only are consumers actively looking to support their local businesses to help maintain their neighborhoods and the economy. They are also interested in local shipping options because they offer attractive benefits.

Also, local delivery services offer a way to build a personalized brand experience. Customers who shop locally are looking for that personal touch, and since you can’t deliver it in-store, local delivery is a way to deliver it. You can use this to connect to existing customers and draw new customers.

Start to make deliveries

Adding local delivery services amid a global pandemic is not a common territory. Also with your past sales months for comparison, it’s hard to foresee how many customers will take you to your service. Some of our clients have seen business cut by half; others have actually seen revenue rise. But even though you do just 10 to 15 deliveries a day, you still need a schedule that your employees will obey. Here’s how you can make your new business plan work.

Add Product Availability Check by Zipcode

The Zipcode validator extension enables consumers to verify the availability of goods in any specific region by entering the zip code. This makes it easier for consumers to verify the availability of items in any region prior to buying.

With the aid of this product availability search by zip code extension, consumers can easily check the availability of the product at any location by entering their Zip code.

It gives consumers the ability to know the approximate date of delivery of the items. Customers do not need to go to the checkout page to find out about shipping availability. They will know the date of delivery of the product in advance from the respective product page.

We offer a handy Product Availability Check module to simplify both management and user experience. Check these out:

Magento, OpenCart, and PrestaShop

Main features of Product Availability Check by Zipcode:

  • Check the availability of goods in any specific region by entering the zip code.
  • Adds a block on the product page to encourage consumers to enter the zip code and verify the availability of the product.
  • Offers the admin to zip zone maps by uploading a CSV file
  • Show the number of days with the approximate shipping date if the product is available.

Make the Delivery management easy

Making on-time deliveries with a secured delivery system and timely updates keeps your brand in the good books of a customer. This is the end process of purchase and many brands fail to deliver on time.

To give hassle-free shipping and delivery experience, you can use Knowband’s Delivery Boy App. The Delivery Boy App allows the manager to register delivery boys, assign orders and keep track of the whole process. Delivery boys can accept or deny the orders.

If any store is using Knowband’s Mobile App, it is easy to link the two and the customer will be able to receive the order status notifications on their mobile app.

You can buy the app from here:

Shipping cost can also be calculated for your products using Shipping cost by Zipcode.

I hope you found this blog helpful to start local delivery services on your online store for the holiday season. During the final quarter of the year, businesses do see a spike in the sale, with that the delivery process becomes more complex. The apps like zip code, delivery boy, and hyperlocal marketplace make the entire process simple.

Why your eCommerce Shipping and Delivery Strategy Is More Important than Ever- Explained with live Examples

How fast are your eCommerce orders delivered? How many choices do you give for delivery? What are you going to charge for shipping? Is shipping secure for you? These are some pressing questions related to eCommerce delivery.

You have to have a plan for delivery services that satisfies your customers and improves their customer experience. In eCommerce, businesses are competing over the customer experience and prompt, well-planned delivery can surely improve it.

In this article, I will be giving reasons that explain the importance of delivery strategy and show you some best delivery management plugins that will help you achieve your business goals.

Why do you need a delivery management strategy?

A bad experience with shipping has a major impact on your business. It affects the reputation of your company, consumer satisfaction, and can raise costs. If there is one business area to concentrate on next, consider making it your shipping strategy for eCommerce. A good shipping experience is more critical than ever, new statistics show.

  • Merchants are now primarily struggling for customer experience.
  • Merchants don’t meet eCommerce delivery customer expectations.
  • Customers are more interested in home delivery than shopping from a brick-and-mortar store.
  • After the COVID-19 outbreak, hygiene and touch-free delivery is expected and merchants are struggling

What do eCommerce customers expect from delivery service providers?

Customers want competitive rates, versatile shipping choices, and quick delivery when it comes to logistics.

Take a further look at these figures to clarify what customers want.

  • 2 out of 3 individuals plan to be able to place an order for next-day delivery up to 5 p.m the night before.
  • Preference for two-days shipping is up significantly
  • For time-sensitive personnel, half of the consumers are prepared to pay extra for faster delivery.

But, you need to find an inexpensive way to enhance your fulfillment operations to reach these standards. This takes time and investment and you probably have a lot of areas that need to be changed.

How to improve the delivery strategy of eCommerce: consider using these modules

You probably don’t specialize in supply chain management or logistics, unless you’re Amazon. And, most probably, you don’t have the money to do this either.

Instead, for making your delivery process quick and smooth, you should consider adding some delivery services dedicated modules to your eCommerce store. As a result, these modules will help you improve the customer experience related to shipping.

The best four extensions developed by KnowBand to enhance customer experience on your eCommerce store are:

  1. Delivery Boy Mobile App
  2. Preferred Delivery Time Extension
  3. Cash On Delivery Extension
  4. Store Locator and Pickup extension

Use Delivery Boy App to assign, manage and deliver the orders

Customers drive away from your store if delivery management is poor. You try your best to bring the customer to your store but during the last step of your business, poor delivery management can cost you a potential customer.

To manage the deliveries you need robust software that can handle all your deliveries, addresses, date and time of delivery, delivery assigning and delivery boy registration, etc.

The Delivery Boy App can help you do that with ease. I will be coming to this later. Before that, you need to understand the need of offering home delivery and how it can boost sales.

The module allows the administrator and the customer to interact easily, which will help to improve customer loyalty as they remain aware of the delivery.

  • The Admin and the delivery boy will also receive updates about the order.
  • Admin can register delivery boy to the application.
  • No Admin will monitor the status of the delivery boy and allocate an order to them.
  • Admin will talk with customers to answer their questions and collect feedback.
  • Admin can also speak with the delivery boy to ask them questions and answer their queries.
  • Delivery Boy will make their status as Online/Offline via the application. This will make their presence or absence.
  • The delivery boy will either confirm or reject the new order assigned to him.
  • OTP must be entered by the delivery boy to check that the delivery is carried out by him to the correct customer.
  • The customer can also monitor the activities of the delivery boy.

The delivery boy app is available for two open-source eCommerce platforms.

In India, many eCommerce companies are using the OpenCart platform. A Pune-based grocery marketplace startup is using KnowBand’s Delivery Boy App to deliver its products locally. BuyKeyStuff is the website for local stores and they do on-time deliveries.

It isn’t easy to manage the shipping for a marketplace as there are various merchants with a larger customer base. However, to provide efficient delivery, they have a team to deliver products. The delivery boy app helps the merchant to assign the orders to delivery boys.

They pick up the order from the merchant and deliver it to the rightful owner. The complete shipping process can be tracked by the app administrator. In case a delivery boy refuses to pick up the order, then he will have to provide the reason for his denial.

This OpenCart Delivery Boy App helps the owner to track the entire process. This way the BuyKeyStuff marketplace manages the delivery with ease.

Preferred Delivery Time for better customer experience

Most of the time the delivery process gets hampered because of the unavailability of the customer at the delivery location.

By offering customized service, the store admin can provide a better store experience. To select the preferred delivery date and time, the store admin can implement the functionality on the OpenCart store.

  • It enables consumers to pick the preferred date and time of delivery at their convenience.
  • Store owners can set a minimum shipping gap between the date of order placement and the preferred date of delivery
  • Defines the interval for delivery time [Start time and End time]

  • Also after placing the order, clients will be able to change the delivery date and time.

These features of preferred delivery time extension give a personalized user experience and merchants can ship and deliver the order according to the customer’s choice.

Cash on Delivery improves trust and builds loyalty

Gain customer loyalty by providing the item with a COD facility. This is simply to allow consumers at the checkout page to make the online payment instead of opting to pay later at the time of delivery. But since many customers are reluctant to share their card details online, you can provide them with the option of Cash on Delivery (COD) along with some extra cost.

  • The customer does not have to share debit card or credit card details
  • Shoppers can shop for goods on the web without fear of hidden costs, breach of security, or risk of money loss.
  • It also allows showing the COD option on the checkout page
  • You can set different charges for different amounts of the order.
  • Add your own payment gateway with the OpenCart Cash on Delivery plugin on your web
  • Set up various COD profiles for different delivery methods and order quantities.
  • OpenCart Cash on Delivery with Fee Extension enables retailers to charge an extra fee for the option of cash on delivery.

In addition, there are several other features that you can configure from the backend of the OpenCart Cash On Delivery Extension.

Buy online and Pickup in-store promotes up-selling

Retail firms have also moved their company on the online platform to ensure social distancing. It also assures that the customers do not feel troubled to get essentials buying online by allowing in-store pick up.

The Shop Locator and In-store Pickup extension encourage self-pickup facility. It allows you to add store location on your websites and lets customers pick up their products by choosing their nearby shop. You can also add multiple stores.

  • It allows the store manager to add multiple stores to make sure that the customer can pick up the order from the closest store using a distance filter
  • Moreover, the store owner can specify timings for the shop opening and closing so no customer sees a lock on the door
  • It also has Google Maps for quick navigation
  • You can specify a pick up time slot. Also, customers can pick the date and time slot as they want
  • In addition, you can notify the customer via email about pickup orders.

Final Thoughts: There is no denying that shipping services play a significant role in deciding whether a customer chooses to buy. If you know your previous delivery strategy isn’t satisfying them well, there’s a fair chance you’ve got to improve it at some places! The OpenCart extensions for delivery will improve user experience and make your business stand out from the crowd.

4 Simple Ways Your Ecommerce Brand Can Better Serve Customers In 2021

Ecommerce organizations have to come up with innovative and unique business marketing ideas to stand out from the competition. Optimizing the UI of your store is important to keep your visitors engaged in your store and to enhance customer retention and conversion it is your primary responsibility to focus on improving customer experience.

While retail businesses have suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic, eCommerce brands with a diversified online presence have witnessed a remarkable growth trend in the business.  When done correctly, marketing can be a big boost to a company’s bottom line. When done incorrectly, however, it may feel like throwing money into a burning pit.

I am sharing 4 eCommerce brand marketing strategies to fuel your business growth in 2021. I’ve compiled a list of suggestions based on the current environment where businesses cannot afford to lose any of their potential buyers.

  1. Comprehend Live Chat on the website

Ecommerce customers are more likely to choose live chat support over email and phone because it enables them to connect with customer service representatives in real-time. Furthermore, live chat is fast and friendly and is listed among the best customer support communication channels.

When customers are more likely to shop everything (most of it) from online stores, it is needful to provide better customer service. Hence incorporating live chat via social media messenger will keep you aware of the customer’s needs and pain points.

  1. Provide logistics and embrace home delivery

If a customer relies on your eCommerce brand for shopping during a pandemic, you have to focus on several parameters that influence the customer decision like delivery service, date and time of delivery, hygiene measures, etc.

Embrace home delivery on your eCommerce store and follow all the hygiene measures to stand out from the crowd. This will give your brand a unique identity and will create a positive impact on your customers.

Read: How you can start home delivery services on your eCommerce store.

  1. Return policy is a good business practice

For your eCommerce brand, providing a return policy with defined rules will influence the shopping decision of your customer. If your eCommerce brand does not have a return policy then there will a huge uplift in bounce rate.

Return policies are the guidelines that retailers set up to govern the process of consumers returning or exchanging unused or faulty goods they’ve already purchased. Return policies are an extension of the customer support provided by retailers, and as a result, they appear to be somewhat liberal.

  1. Invite feedbacks and highlight them

Customers who shop online want to make an informed decision. That’s why so many people depend on feedbacks and reviews for local businesses or star ratings when they shop on the eCommerce giant’s website.

You will increase consumer trust in your eCommerce brand by actively soliciting feedback and encouraging consumers to leave product reviews on their website. Providing incentives is the best way to motivate customers for dropping a rating and review on your store.

Conclusion:

This year will be awesome if you implement these four suggestions in your eCommerce brand marketing and customer service strategies. Remember that you can learn more about marketing for your brand in the eCommerce article section, and the KnowBand team is here to help you find new ways to add value to your company.

Delivery management is the process of transporting a product from one end to another ensuring no damage in the most effective and efficient manner. Often referred to as dispatch or fleet management, the question here comes is How do we get these items transferred from point A to point B? How to overcome the challenges coming on the way during delivery management for eCommerce?

The B2C businesses require a robust delivery system that can handle the order tracking from order pickup to order delivery to provide an excellent customer experience. This role has never been in greater demand as customer expectations continue to grow. Since eCommerce is expanding, the demand for home delivery has been increased, and having a yardstick delivery system is of foremost importance.

What is delivery management?

The delivery management starts after the customer places the order. Whether you are a small B2C business owner or a multi-national brand, delivery management isn’t that simple. The store owner has to take care of the logistics, the order status, delivery boy, vehicle driver, shipping charges for cost efficiency, and last but not least the product condition at the time it reaches the customer’s door.

You can always hire a delivery manager. A delivery, logistics, or dispatch manager is commonly referred to as the person in charge of deliveries. The delivery in charge is also tasked with local delivery and driver operations control. They are also the middle point of communication between warehouses and those making deliveries in smaller businesses. Delivery managers prefer to concentrate on trouble spots, such as overdue orders, in more robust operations where orders are processed programmatically.

There are various software and modules available for delivery management that can help you with the seamless handling of the entire home delivery process. And if you have a PrestaShop or OpenCart store then you are fortunate enough because KnowBand has launched the Delivery Boy app for both the platforms. This will surely lend a helping hand to your home delivery business to successfully manage it.

Challenges in Delivery Management:

There are various issues faced by eCommerce owners or physical store owners when they provide on-demand home delivery to their customers. The most annoying thing is waiting without knowing the order status. Some of the challenges are discussed here:

  • Incorrect tracking information- Problem finding specific addresses in deliveries. No way to keep track of agents/drivers.
  • Delayed Delivery- Customers do not know the estimated arrival time.
  • Handling delivery refusal by the customer-
  • Lack of proper database of deliveries, agents, and customers
  • Communication with drivers/agents is hard

You might need some software that can handle your deliveries in order to boost your delivery management system. But this program often costs you a lot of money. But in the market, pocket-friendly and better solutions are available. Let’s understand what the applications for distribution management should be able to do.

Tips to improve your delivery operations management

By completing more deliveries with fewer resources (man-hours, equipment, fuel), distribution operations are continuously trying to bring down costs while also ensuring a high level of customer service. Delivery managers frequently use a variety of instruments and techniques to optimize their metrics and scale up their activities.

1. Set your priorities:

A simple way to plan the day is by prioritizing the orders. You may classify those customers or stops that must be served based on the relevance of an order or the stated calendar date by doing this.
By specifying the priority of the order, you let the algorithm know what must be included in the optimization of the path. Or on the flip side, if you run into resource constraints, let orders get moved to another date.

2. Never give commitments that are hard to stick with

Today’s consumers expect accountability and are more concerned with businesses delivering than with pace throughout promised time-windows. If these consumer expectations cannot be met, organizations run the risk of harming their image.
False commitments will drive your customers away. You might have succeeded in achieving your target this time but if you fail to deliver the product on time then you will lose a potential lead and will impact the retention rate.

3. Pick up the orders faster

There are many things you can do to collect orders faster: plan your order list concerning the position of the goods in the warehouse, pick several orders at once (batch picking), consider how long it takes to pick products, consider the best way to handle various sizes of the products to be selected, and investigate whether people or robots are faster to pick them at the warehouse.

4. Incorporate order and vehicle tracking system

Tracking a vehicle with Google map integration is not rocket science anymore. Visibility to vehicle locations in real-time can help dispatchers understand when a driver may be off course, saving valuable resources and avoiding costly delays. Customer support teams also leverage vehicle tracking to tell customers when their delivery is likely to be completed.
Vehicle tracking will let you know if the driver is heading in the right direction on his or her way to their next delivery or not. You can even come to know about the traffic information with real-time tracking and geolocation intelligence.

5. Upgrade your delivery system with technology

Technology combined with AI improves human skills and reduces everyday work. In several different ways, AI can optimize the delivery management: customer service chat-bots, image recognition where AI extracts information from an image, identification of anomalies, quality assurance through image, video, and data tracking, delivery time prediction, fraud detection cameras, delivery robots, and more.

2.0 Admin Panel Screens

Upon the installation of the PrestaShop Delivery Boy App module on a PrestaShop eCommerce website, it’s now time for the store admin to manage their Delivery Boy App. They can do so from the admin panel of this module. Below is the detailed explanation:

2.1 General Settings:

A) Enable: This toggle switch enables the delivery boy app to either be on or off, i.e. enabled/ disabled.

B) Google Map API Key: Such an API key handles the location mapping, also helps with navigation.

C) Order Status: Options available in this allows the admin to set default statuses for the orders such as for-

  • Disabled Open Orders
  • Status Once Order is assigned
  • Status once order is picked up
  • Status once order is delivered
  • Payment to be collected

2.2 Delivery Boy Settings:

This settings tab contains information about all the delivery agents that are using the ‘Delivery Boy App’. From this settings tab, the store admin can also add new delivery agents.

2.3 Add Delivery App:

The store admin can enter various parameters such as name, profile picture, phone number, DOB, email, password, address, etc. Also, the vehicle information including vehicle type (car/bike/others), vehicle number. Bank account details are also included here so that agents can receive their payments in their accounts.

The store owner also gets to edit the information of existing delivery agents on the above-mentioned parameters.

2.4 Manage Orders:

For store admin to manage their orders on the Delivery Boy App, a simple categorization is done for convenient management. They are-

  • Open Orders

  • Assigned Orders

  • In-Progress Orders

  • Delivered Orders

In all these lists, a very systematic arrangement is made in a tabular format for easy management. Admins can also manually assign any order to a particular delivery agent. Upon clicking on a delivery boy to view his/her information, the following screen is shown to the admin to manage that delivery boy.

The two icons of a ‘file’ & ‘delivery truck’ are meant for invoices. The icon ‘magnifying glass’ is meant for viewing all the details about a particular delivery assigned to that delivery boy. This is how its screenshots look like.

3.0 Front End Screens

3.1 Splash Screen:

The PrestaShop Delivery Boy App takes care of all the management & processing for the delivery agents. The welcome screen or the splash screen of the app (on the front end) can be designed at the time of development with your brand logo and name.

3.2 Delivery Boy login screen:

All of the delivery boys (that are approved by the admins) can log in to their ‘delivery boy app’ using the login screen as shown in the frontend screenshot. Upon setting up a new password (such as when someone forgets his/her password), the delivery boys get the options to change their password on their registered email id/ phone number.

3.3 Dashboard Screen:

The main dashboard of the PrestaShop Delivery Boy App displays all the necessary information all gathered at this one screen. From the dashboard, a delivery boy can navigate anywhere on the app to access various other things such as order delivery records, assigned orders, delivered orders, my-info & many other screens. By default, the map (as shown in the screenshot) shows the exact location of the delivery boy & the tracking of the order.

3.4 OTP Login for Delivery:

For the complete security of the orders, an OTP is sent to the customer (who placed the order). While delivering the order to the customer, delivery boys need to ask the customer for that OTP and enter in his/her delivery boy app. Only then the order is successfully delivered (if it’s the right OTP i.e. the right customer).

3.5 Delivery Boy Information:

This screen contains all the information of the delivery boy. It’s like a my-info or my-account screen for the delivery boy. Information such as name, profile picture, phone number, DOB, email, password, address, vehicle details & bank account details is available on this screen.

3.6 Navigation Menu:

The Navigation menu/ Toggle menu is what allows the delivery boy to navigate anywhere on the app. As shown in the screenshot, assigned orders, in-progress orders, delivered orders can be accessed by the delivery boys. The status of the delivery boy, i.e. whether he is online/offline can also be seen here.

3.7 Order Accept/Reject:

Whenever an order is assigned to a delivery boy, he gets to accept/reject the order. Upon accepting the order, the assigned order shows up on the ‘assigned order’ page as shown on the screen-shot.

3.8 In-progress Orders:

All the orders that are in-progress are displayed on the ‘in-progress’ tab. Delivery boys can access these orders to process them.

3.9 Order Details:

This is what the screen looks like the delivery boy right when he accepts to deliver an order. The cost of the order & the delivery address is shown here as well. The delivery boy can even submit a comment he needs.
