I don't want google to index a link given in anchor tag. How can I prevent this from happening? I have learned that we can add no follow no index. But I don't know where to add it.

In my opinion you can only add nofollow in the anchor text. If you donot want Google to index & follow a specific page on your webiste simply put this tag on the website.

<meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">

It will instruct the Google to not to follow and index this page.

To put nofollow on a specific anchor text use this tag:-

<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.websitename.com/">Anchor text</a>
